SUMMARY
The role of the surgical coordinator is to schedule surgeries for patients and surgeons. The surgical coordinator will work as a liaison between the hospital and/or surgery center to schedule procedures and also coordinate with all patients. This role requires excellent customer service skills with patients, employees, and the public.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
- Reports to Clinic Supervisor and Practice Administrator
- Schedule hospital or surgery center based medical procedures, for patients with appropriate provider and time/location, slot, and appropriate codes.
- Coordinate medical/surgical clearance exam and testing with patient’s primary care physicians and report such findings to the facility.
- Interface with appropriate hospital staff to ensure a cohesive working relationship in providing patient care services.
- Enter notes/special instructions needed for scheduling in the electron medical record
- Provide accurate, detailed information to patients regarding test preparations, time of patients scheduled arrival, and any other directional information needed; takes appropriate action in responding to questions from patients.
- Respond timely to post op calls; respond to all post op calls by end of day
- Check work email and other systems periodically throughout the day
- Obtain prior authorizations when required
- Disclose information when required, using appropriate guidelines and following HIPAA regulations
- Recognize and respond to emergencies under the guidance of the provider
- Attend staff meeting and complete mandator in-service education and training
- Perform other duties or special projects as required or assigned by management.
