SUMMARY

 

The role of the surgical coordinator is to schedule surgeries for patients and surgeons.  The surgical coordinator will work as a liaison between the hospital and/or surgery center to schedule procedures and also coordinate with all patients.  This role requires excellent customer service skills with patients, employees, and the public. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

  1. Reports to Clinic Supervisor and Practice Administrator
  2. Schedule hospital or surgery center based medical procedures, for patients with appropriate provider and time/location, slot, and appropriate codes.
  3. Coordinate medical/surgical clearance exam and testing with patient’s primary care physicians and report such findings to the facility.
  4. Interface with appropriate hospital staff to ensure a cohesive working relationship in providing patient care services.
  5. Enter notes/special instructions needed for scheduling in the electron medical record
  6. Provide accurate, detailed information to patients regarding test preparations, time of patients scheduled arrival, and any other directional information needed; takes appropriate action in responding to questions from patients.
  7. Respond timely to post op calls; respond to all post op calls by end of day
  8. Check work email and other systems periodically throughout the day
  9. Obtain prior authorizations when required
  10. Disclose information when required, using appropriate guidelines and following HIPAA regulations
  11. Recognize and respond to emergencies under the guidance of the provider
  12. Attend staff meeting and complete mandator in-service education and training
  13. Perform other duties or special projects as required or assigned by management.
